Inga trummor, ingen elektricitet.
I vintras ville singer-songwritern Joseph Arthur knappt gå på hyllningskonserten för sin avlidne vän Lou Reed. Han var trött på att sörja och kände sig färdiggråten, men i själva verket hade sorgeprocessen bara börjat. Detta skriver han i konvolutet till sitt kommande album.
Senare i vår släpper Joseph Arthur albumet Lou, ett hyllningsalbum där han tolkar tolv Reed-låtar. Skivan spelades in av Joseph Arthur själv, och hans enda regel vid inspelningen var att inte använda några trummor eller någon elektricitet.
"The only way I know to give new life to something as rich with life as Lou's songs and recordings is to go about them in a completely different way", skriver Arthur, och påpekar att det är omöjligt att försöka bräcka originalen.
I albumkonvolutet skriver han även: "It's odd dancing around death, odder still if the death you are dancing around is that of a legend," Arthur skriver vidare i konvolutet: "You just never know what's appropriate and what's not, what to share and what to keep inside. There is no blueprint. I loved Lou and we were friends. The last thing I would want to do is turn his life into an opportunity, but at the same time, what better way to honor the man and his music than to celebrate it and sing it and record it?"
Albumet släpps den 13e maj på skivbolaget Vanguard Records.
