Foster The The People avslöjar i en intervju med Billboard att de "allvarligt funderar på att pensionera" deras största hit Pumped Up Kicks. Detta på grund av delar av textens innehåll.
Indieklassikern som släpptes 2010 handlar om en ung student vid namn Robert, som fantiserar om att skjuta sina klasskamrater.
Texten lyder bland annat: “Yeah, he found a six-shooter gun/ In his dad’s closet, boy in a box of fun things/ I don’t even know what/ But he’s coming for you, yeah, he’s coming for you.”
I intervjun med Billboard menar bandets frontare, Mark Foster, att låten förmodligen tas bort från deras liverepertoar.
Han säger bland annat: “The thing that made that song special was the public, and the fact that people thought it was special, and it resonated and it created a conversation. And I’m proud of the conversation that it created. But now I’ve been very seriously thinking of retiring the song forever.”
2017 tog bandet bort låten från sitt liveset då spelningen skedde bara en dag efter masskjutningen i Las Vegas.
